McDonald County Candlelight Santa story...........

The warm light of this Santa reminds me of the warmth of the candles and kerosene lamps of my childhood.

My father, who was quite a character, got mad at the electric company when they cut down a tree that he didn’t want cut - so he showed them, he didn’t hook up to electricity. Therefore, we relied on candles and kerosene lamps for light and my Mother cooked on a wood stove. At the time, I didn’t appreciate the hardships that life without electricity created but, looking back, I realize there were hidden benefits to this seemingly primitive lifestyle.

Since there was no television, there was more family time. We gathered around the table which was graced with the soft light from the lamp in it’s center. At this table we shared much more than meals. We shared our innermost feelings, secrets, hopes and dreams. We enjoyed many adventures as we escaped into the captivating world of books and unbreakable family bonds were forged as the shadows from the lamplight danced across our faces.

<>I hope you will enjoy this candlelight Santa, a reminder of my Childhood on our farm in beautiful McDonald County Missouri.

<>Our Honey Creek Holiday Homes Tour is proud to have a signed, one of a kind Linda Lindquist Baldwin Santa available for a raffle to benefit our new Library.  Linda, a McDonald County native, has created this Santa especially with our library in mind.  She has included the lantern to represent the “illumination” we gain through a library and also the luminaries that will light your way during our Homes Tour; the many books and a newspaper that you will find in our library; the wreath, which is part of our Homes Tour logo; the bells that remind us of the bell tower of our Southwest City High School that has been included in the design of our new library.  Last but not least, Linda has included a slate with the image of our future library…making this unique Santa extra special.
